Nice vs. Kind
Kindness is genuine care expressed with healthy boundaries. Niceness is often an attempt to avoid conflict, manage other people's emotions, or earn approval. They look similar from the outside, but they feel very different from the inside.
What People-Pleasing Actually Costs
Chronic niceness leads to resentment (you give more than you receive), loss of identity (you morph to match whoever you're with), and paradoxically, less respect from others (people trust boundaries more than compliance).
The Fix
Start saying no to things that cost you energy without providing value. The initial discomfort is temporary; the freedom is permanent. And the people who matter will respect you more, not less.
