First Impressions Are (Almost) Everything
Research shows that interviewers often decide within the first 4 minutes whether they'll hire someone, then spend the rest of the interview confirming that initial impression. This means your entrance, handshake, eye contact, and opening statements carry disproportionate weight.
The Storytelling Advantage
Candidates who tell specific stories ('Let me tell you about the time Iā¦') are rated higher than those who speak in generalities. Stories are more memorable, more persuasive, and demonstrate competence more effectively than listing qualifications.
Confidence Calibration
Too little confidence and you seem incapable. Too much and you seem arrogant or dishonest. The sweet spot is confident about your strengths, honest about your growth areas, and genuinely curious about the role. This calibration is easier when you actually know where your strengths and gaps are.
